The Extension Aftercare Guide

Protecting Your Investment in Luxury Length

Congratulations on your transformation! Whether we’ve added volume, length, or a "Signature Spectrum" pop of color, your extensions are a high-end investment. To maintain the integrity of your natural hair and the vibrancy of your new look, follow these professional protocols.

1. The Golden Rule: Never Sleep on Wet Hair

This is the most important rule in the Vixen handbook. Sleeping with wet extensions causes matting and tangling at the attachment point that can be impossible to brush out.

  • The Ritual: Ensure your hair is 100% dry before bed.

  • The Sleep Style: Secure your hair in a loose, low braid or ponytail using a silk or satin scrunchie to prevent friction. A silk pillowcase is highly recommended to keep the hair smooth and snag-free.

2. Brushing: The Foundation of Longevity

Extensions need a little extra love to stay seamless.

  • The Tools: Use a professional extension brush (like a Boar Bristle or Loop brush).

  • The Technique: Always hold the base of the extensions with one hand to prevent tension on your natural hair. Start brushing from the ends and work your way up to the roots.

  • The Frequency: Brush 2–3 times a day to prevent "micro-tangling" near the attachment.

3. The Cleanse: Preserving the Pigment

Since your extensions don't receive natural oils from your scalp, they need specific hydration to stay vibrant.

  • The Products: Use only sulfate-free, paraben-free, and professional-grade shampoos and conditioners. (Sulfates will strip the "Signature Spectrum" color and loosen the extension bonds).

  • The Method: Wash gently between the rows. Do not scrub the attachment points. Apply conditioner only from the mid-lengths to the ends—never on the roots or the extension bonds, as this can cause them to slip.

4. Heat Styling: Handle with Care

Extensions are real hair, but they require a "less is more" approach to heat.

  • Heat Protection: Always apply a professional heat protectant before using any hot tools.

  • The Temperature: Keep your tools at or below 350°F (175°C). High heat can "flash dry" the hair and lead to breakage.

  • The Blowout: When blow-drying, point the nozzle downward to keep the cuticle smooth and shiny.

5. Sun, Salt, and Chlorine

Vacations can be hard on extensions.

  • The Shield: Before swimming, wet your hair with clean tap water and apply a leave-in conditioner. This prevents the hair from soaking up salt or chlorine like a sponge.

  • The Warning: Be wary of sunscreens containing Avobenzone. This chemical can cause a permanent peach/orange discoloration on blonde extensions. Look for "Mineral" or "Reef Safe" sunscreens instead.

The Maintenance Schedule

To keep your natural hair healthy and your extensions invisible, regular move-ups at our Sola Salon suite are non-negotiable.

  • Move-Up Window: Every 6 to 9 weeks (depending on your hair growth and method).

  • Booking Tip: We recommend "pre-booking" your move-up at the end of every appointment to ensure you stay within the safe window for your hair's integrity.
